Altro Alfresco again features my dear childhood friend Tom Loretto improvising at (and on) the base of a tree with an assortment of pots, pans, pipes, jars, etc. Mother Nature’s deep breaths and Sharon Mattlin’s distant soprano recorder improvisations contribute a chance counterpoint. The tape-speed manipulation and overdubbing heard here and in Loretto Alfresco undoubtedly reflect the influence of Frank Zappa, who I was also privileged to know in the late 1960s. Premiered during the 2011 SEAMUS conference (University of Miami), Altro Alfresco has also been heard in Argentina, Switzerland, the U.K., and at other locales in the U.S. – R.F.
