In a post-USA dystopia, teenager Libertaria escapes from the GenTech factory & teams up with her addict father to lead a children’s cyborg army against evil reverse-ageing geneticists in this epic animated opera. The Libertaria Song Cycle contains selections from the “groundbreaking” Libertaria: The Virtual Opera, the world’s first machinima opera. Libertaria has been presented at TEDx, NYC Opera America, Women’s Composers Festival of Hartford, Holland Animation Film Festival, Animacyros in Greece, and countless venues worldwide.
Libertaria: The Virtual Opera was created entirely online, without a single live rehearsal and premiered in 2013 at Classical Arts at Calvary in Lake Worth, hosted by legendary composer Dr. Clare Shore. Sabrina Peña Young mixed over 1000 recordings for the animated film score and worked with an all-female team of animators to produce the feature film. She auditioned musicians worldwide to find an incredible cast. Singers downloaded scores and click tracks and e-mailed audio to Peña Young. Working with film composer Patrick Rundblad whom she hired using crowdfunding, Peña Young mixed and mastered the final masterpiece.
In the time of Covid, Libertaria inspires composers to challenge traditional opera and create new exciting works in the virtual space.

Called “Wagner 2.0” for her “groundbreaking” work, Sabrina Peña Young stretches the definition of classical music with innovative works including the prize-winning Creation Oratorio, animated opera Libertaria, and Destiny Eondwyr for Malletkat. In 2018 Young was awarded the prestigious Cintas Foundation Brandon Fradd Fellowship and in 2019 she received the Lois Weber Award for notable women in film. Author of Composer Boot Camp 101 and Filmmaking Crash Course, Sabrina Peña Young inspires artists to create using Internet collaboration and technology.
